Bioprospecting of Genes and Molecules provides a comprehensive understanding of the exploration, identification, and utilization of biological resources for the discovery of valuable genes, biomolecules, and bioactive compounds. The book covers the principles, concepts, and practices of traditional and modern bioprospecting, highlighting their importance in biotechnology, agriculture, medicine, and industrial applications.
The text explains advanced approaches such as genomics, proteomics, high-throughput screening, functional genomics, microbial bioprospecting, and molecular characterization techniques. Detailed discussions on extraction, purification, screening, structural elucidation, large-scale production, and commercialization of bioactive compounds help readers understand the complete process from discovery to product development.
Special emphasis is given to biodiversity conservation, Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), intellectual property rights, patenting, biological databases, and ethical aspects of resource utilization. Designed for students, researchers, academicians, and professionals in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, and pharmaceutical sciences, this book serves as a valuable resource for understanding the scientific, technological, legal, and commercial dimensions of modern bioprospecting.
